Precious and fine stone mines

Hello Maïteas ,

I hope you are doing well with the arrival of the rain...

Finally, we will talk about the extraction of precious stones and fine stones.

Their extraction is carried out in 60 countries, and 80% of mines are artisanal or illegal. Once the stones are extracted under difficult conditions, miners sell their finds at an extremely low price.

So why do they cost so much? The reason is simple: many intermediaries take their commissions, make the supply chain opaque and prevent us from knowing the origin of the stones.

However, if we do not know their origin, how can we help minors to improve their living conditions?

After much research carried out during confinement, we finally found a supplier who guarantees the country of origin, and even the mine of origin!

This allows us to have the traceability of the stones , which, barely a year ago, was simply impossible... This new partner encourages us to visit the mines and their communities, which we will do when the crisis of Covid-19 will have passed.

We will also be able to set up new partnerships with local stakeholders and thus make our contribution to improving the living conditions of minors.

These requirements reduced the choice of stones that we wanted to use...we will therefore create our first collection only with spinels and garnets whose origin we can guarantee. We will soon, I hope, be able to add other stones such as tourmaline , my favorite stone!

Wondering why not use recycled gemstones? The answer is simple: because it doesn’t exist yet…

We are really proud to have been able to make progress both on traceability and on respect for nature and people. By developing the activity of partners with the same values of social responsibility as us, we are making our small contribution to the sanitation of this sector and, ultimately, to a better world.

I still have a lot left to tell you...

And you ? What do you think ?

You can write to me, give me your opinion, ask me questions, and I will answer you with great pleasure.

I kiss you Maïteas.

Stay tuned and spread love!
Patricia
